Candle Care & Safety
Each Taft Candle Co. candle is thoughtfully handcrafted to burn cleanly and beautifully. With proper care, you’ll enjoy a longer-lasting candle, a stronger fragrance experience, and a safer burn.

MY STORY
The First Burn Matters
The first time you light your candle sets the tone for every burn after.
Allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the container before extinguishing. This helps prevent tunneling and ensures an even, consistent burn throughout the life of your candle.
Plan for at least 2–3 hours on the first burn.
Wick Care
A well-maintained wick makes all the difference.
-
Trim wick to ¼ inch before each burn
-
This helps reduce smoke, soot, and uneven flames
-
A shorter wick creates a steady, controlled burn
If the flame becomes too large or flickers excessively, extinguish the candle, trim the wick, and relight once cooled.
Burn Guidelines
For best results:
-
Burn for 2–4 hours at a time
-
Avoid burning longer than 4 hours
-
Allow candle to cool completely before relighting
Keep It Clean
-
Keep the wax pool free of debris (wick trimmings, matches, etc.)
-
If soot appears on the jar, wipe clean once the candle has cooled
How to Extinguish
-
Use a candle snuffer or gently dip the wick into the melted wax and straighten it
-
Avoid blowing directly to reduce smoke and splatter
-
Never use water to extinguish a candle
Storage Tips
-
Store candles in a cool, dry place
-
Keep out of direct sunlight to prevent fading or softening
-
Replace the lid when not in use to preserve fragrance
A Note on Beeswax
You may notice a soft white coating on beeswax candles over time. This is called “bloom” and is completely natural. It does not affect performance and can be gently buffed away if desired.
Safety First
Always follow these guidelines when burning your candle:
-
Never leave a burning candle unattended
-
Keep out of reach of children and pets
-
Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface
-
Keep away from drafts, fans, and open windows
-
Keep at least 2 feet away from anything flammable
-
Do not move a candle while wax is liquid
-
Stop use when ½ inch of wax remains
Crafted with Care
Our candles are made in small batches using high-quality waxes and 100% cotton wicks (lead- and zinc-free) for a clean, consistent burn. Slight variations are part of their handcrafted nature and make each piece uniquely yours.
